Nyanting Bareng, an Event where Everyone could Draw Their Very Own Batik Motifs

TIMESMALAYSIA, YOGYAKARTA – The Jalan Sukonandi Yogyakarta look so crowded with dozens of people drawing with canting on a piece of a huge white fabric. They were joining the nyanting bareng event to commemorate the National Batik Day of Indonesia on October 2nd 2019.

The event which was held on Friday morning October 4th 2019 was an idea of the Balai Besar Kerajinan dan Batik (BBKB), Yogyakarta. They aware that beside it has become the national heritage Batik is such a culture and trademark for Indonesian that they could wear occasionally or just daily.

"Batik has had their own place in Indonesian heart. They wear it for formal or informal occasions, some people wear it for their daily activities at home event when they sleep," the Head of Balai Besar Kerajinan dan Batik, Titik Purwati Widowati said.

Still according to her, batik has become a huge industry that give lots of benefits to the people especially economically. It's also helps so much people finding their job through this industry, also has Abigail role as an export commodities.

On the Nyanting Bareng, the people were prepared with all the Batik equipments like the canting, stove, pan, wax, and a 25 meters long fabric. They were divided into several group so everyone could have their own chance to draw the Batik. The participants looked so enthusiastic on drawing on the pattern given.(*)
